Christmas on Columbia Road
Every Wednesday until Christmas, the famous road with it’s flower market, becomes a Christmas fairytale. This place takes you back in time with it’s vintage and designer independent shops. Christmas Wednesdays at Columbia is a unique event, just because this is the only place in London, where shoppers and shopkeepers perform in an improvised Christmas choir and sing Christmas chorals all night on the street.
Christmas on Columbia Road is magical.
You can get dizzy by the smell and lights, by the colours and glitter of the incredibly set up shop windows. Shopping is almost a carousel, where you cant wait to get on and off and go for another ride. The variety of things you can buy is amazing, from Mexican dinner sets from Milagros to fancy designer cashmere baby clothing from Dandy Star. You can stop and have a rest with a glass of Mulled wine and try the most delicious home made mince pies in town.
Columbia Road is an eclectic place, full of characters – shop keepers and local residents. People, who care about preserving the community spirit and are very open about how they celebrate this special time of the year.
For the first time this year, Columbia Road entrepreneurs are celebrating “The Independence day”, marking the effort of be an Independent businesses in this unique part of London. East London has become a real experience like nowhere in the world.
